Education & Experience:
Celia J. Melanson is a proud member of the Nova Scotia Bar. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University ('82), then completed her law studies at Dalhousie University ('85) receiving her Bachelor of Laws Degree. After articling in Enfield, she was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1986. From 1986 to 1988 Celia worked in the law department of CN Rail in Moncton, New Brunswick and has been in private practice since that time. From 1988 until 1995 she worked with the firm "Archibald, Morley" in Amherst, Nova Scotia. A family move brought her to Shelburne in 1995 where she set up her practice. She has been a valuable member of this fine community ever since.
Past and Present Activities and Involvement:
Celia is an active member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society having served on Bar Council and on a number of Committees for the Society. She is also active in the Western Counties Barristers' Society. Celia is a volunteer at the Shelburne Loyalist Food Bank, as well as having served in the past on the Board of Directors of the Osprey Arts Centre, Family and Children Services of Shelburne County and the Cumberland County Transition House Association. Celia is a member of the Shelburne and Area Chamber of Commerce.

Activities and Interests:
Celia believes in taking an active part in her community. She enjoys curling and walking and is a member of the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club. She is a member of the Shelburne Re-enactment Association, in which she portrays both a military musician and a middle-class woman from the time of the Loyalist landings in 1783. She is also a member of the Shelburne Longboat Society whose members can be found rowing the Long boats in Shelburne Harbour during the summer months. She has been an active member of a local musical ensemble "The Pit Band" and handbell choir for many years and is an accomplished flutist and fifer. She is also an avid reader and takes delight and pleasure in spending quality time with family and friends. |
